Bike Backpacking Trip (how to, planning, equipment, etc)

I've know quite a few folks who have thought about Bike Backpacking Trips for quite a while now, so finally someone started a thread to bring this idea to the forefront.

Interested? Done it? Have ideas? Questions? Head to the thread link below!

I've camped, and I've biked, but not together yet. I looked into it a bit. REI sells some bikepacking-worthy backpacks. Light, vented, room for a hammock or bivy bag and a small sleeping pad and clothes, etc.

A hammock is the lightest sleep solution. Try one with a built in net, viewable at http://www.outdoorgb.com/p/amazonas_moskitotraveller_hammock/. If using a sleeping pad, try ThermaRest lite, at 1-2 lbs, and it folds small. Panniers may be better than a backpack, or can keep backpack lighter.

I found a bikepacking intro at http://www.southwestguidebooks.com/bikepacking.htm that has an equipment list.

I've been looking into the hammock solution too. It seems to be a really viable way to camp on the light without having to over burden yourself with too much gear.
